We have had T-mobile cell service since 2003. We have never paid our bill late and never been a problem. They decided to cancel our service anyway.
The town that we live in is not in the T-mobile service area so we are always roaming. When we moved from Detroit I asked them if it would be a problem, and they said no. Immediately, we had bad service. We have service maybe 50% of the time... and that is if we are standing on our heads, crossing our fingers and the right planets were aligned. Every month since we moved I have called them to see if there is something that we can do about the poor service, and every month they walk me through all of these different steps that do nothing. Each time, I ask about canceling my service and am told that there is a $200 per line cancellation fee.
Today when the guy was done walking me through the steps, he said "Really, there is nothing I can do. You will never have a good signal." Then, he mentions to me that T-Mobile's written policy is that if you move out of a T-Mobile coverage area, you can cancel your contract without any cancellation fee. Four representatives later we ended up with 3 canceled phone lines, 2 unlocked phones and no cancellation fees.
The really bad part about all of this is that they were going to shut off my phone anyway, because I use too many roaming minutes!! I can not even begin to tell you how mad I am. Oh, and of course... this all happens one day after we could have returned the BlackBerry for a full refund.
We went to AT&T, but they only have one BlackBerry plan. and it is $30 a month. If we decide to go with them, our bill will go up by $40 a month or so.
We are going to take a few days to think about what to do. We might just end up with Pay as you go. Now I just have to convince my kids that wanting a can of tuna isn't an emergency.
